ABS in an amorphous polymer and opaque thermoplastic, ABS has a strong resistance to corrosive chemicals and is a very tough thermoplastic. ABS can be heated to its melting point, cooled and reheated again without much degradation. ABS id a very easy to machine and due to its low melting temperature but as a thermoplastic ABS, instead of burning will liquefy which makes it an excellent material for injection moulding and 3D printing. A variety of of modifications can be made the ABS to improve its impact resistance, heat resistance and toughness.
ABS plastics are largely used in the mechanical industry, it has excellent electrical conductivity over a wide range of frequencies and moulding ABS at high temperatures improves the gloss and heat resistance of the product whereas the highest strength and impact resistance are obtained by moulding at low temperatures. One of the most common uses for ABS you will see on an almost daily basis in things like computer keyboards, the plastic guards on wall sockets and power tool housing.
